Writer's Journal Prompt:
Draw a beach scene and write about a day at the beach.
What would you do at the beach? I know exactly what I would do in the sand and in the water and even what I would eat! Write down what you would do so I can read about your favorite beach things to do.

Social Studies
Today you will finish the book.

Art

Step 1: Draw a big heart, make a bullseye on it, and outline it in dark marker or Sharpie as seen below:
Step 2: Pick out your two colors (I used red and blue) and color every other line of the bullseye inside the heart.
Step 3: Start coloring the outside of the bullseye- every other line. My blues are not touching again so make sure when you color the outside the same color does not touch itself.

Step 4: Color in the white parts that are left with your other color.

Writer's Journal Prompt:
Why are moms important?
Explain why your mom is important to you in 4 sentences. What does she do that is special for you? (We are focusing on writing about our moms because this month we celebrated Mother's Day a few weeks ago. It is always nice to reflect on what they do for us and let them know too!)

Social Studies
Color Sue nicely and write two reasons why Sue was an important discovery.

Art
Step 1: Draw a large heart and use a straight edge to draw straight lines like a grid or like a tick-tak-toe board. Make sure they are straight up and down and straight across the paper.

Step 2: Outline it with a dark marker or Sharpie.

Step 3: Pick your two colors. I used yellow and purple this time. Color every other square in the heart yellow. Yellow should not touch another yellow square.

Step 4: Color the white squares in the heart your second color and add a design if you would like.

Step 5: Color the opposite squares on the outside. So purple never touches purple. Yellow never touches yellow. Or whatever colors you use!

Step 6: Finish coloring your whole paper. Add more designs if you would like on the outside of the heart too.

Writer's Journal Prompt:
Write a story about the things your mother does to make you happy.
Think on it and answer thoughtfully. What does she do? Make you your favorite food? Games? Do you have time together?
Remember to answer in 4 complete sentences!

Social Studies
Read pages 1 and 2 and answer the question in at least 2 sentences. Color the picture too!

Art
Step 1: Start with drawing a large heart on your paper.

Step 2: Find something with a straight edge to draw lines through your heart. I used my folder that I am storing my work for this week in. You can use your folder too!

Draw the lines from different sides of the paper all over your heart.

Step 3: Go over all the lines in a black marker, pen or Sharpie and pick two colors to use.

Step 4: Color the triangles inside the heart one color.
I colored every triangle in the heart. I also had to color one rectangle piece because of how the lines connected. You want to try to color every other area of the heart.

Step 5: Then I took my second color and colored in the white areas of the heart and added a little design to it.
Step 6: Color the opposite areas outside of the heart. The same color should not touch itself. For example, my green colors do not touch and my red colors do not touch. Red touches green and green touches red but there is no red with red and green with green.

Step 7: Fill in the white areas with your first color.

Social Studies
Today, you will nicely color the cover of your Dinosaur Sue Book. Have fun!

Art
This week, we will be drawing different hearts to make Op Art (optical illusion art). The hearts will POP out of your page. Here's the first one, step by step:

Step 1: Draw a large heart on your paper using pencil

Step 2: Draw wavy lines over the whole page

Step 3: Go over all your lines in a Sharpie marker or any dark marker or pen

Step 4: Pick only TWO colors for coloring your heart. This works the best with two colors so we are sticking to that.

Step 5: Color every other wavy line inside your heart

Step 6: This is where it gets a little tricky- you want to color the wavy lines on the outside of your heart but not the same wavy lines as inside your heart. Notice the orange does not match up with the lines inside or outside the heart.

Here's a close up to see better:

Step 7: Use our other color to fill in the white areas. You can either make a design like I did or leave it colored in solid. It's up to you!
